General information

The CRY-1 gene is a performance marker in pigeons, associated with homing pigeon racing performance. Pigeons can carry AG and TT genotypes that influence the performance in racing. A third genotype (AT) has been found to occur in rare occasions.

Clinical features

For competition performance, pigeons that are genotyped with TT mutation achieve significantly higher mean values of ace points (AP) than the ones genotyped without. This means the preferred genotypes would be AG/TT and the more rare TT/TT genotype (and probably also AT/TT, AT/AT and AT/AG).

Additional information

The mode of inheritance has not yet been described in literature.
