The von Willebrand disease is a bleeding disorder, during the disease the “von Willebrand factor” is affected in the plasma, this factor is important for blood clotting. Therefore, the blood clotting is disturbed which leads to bleeding symptoms.

Inheritance of this disease is described as autosomal recessive trait in most breeds, the Kromfohrländer breed is a special case which follows an autosomal dominant inheritance mode with incomplete penetrance.
