Northern Terrier Upper Airway Syndrome (NTUAS) is a breathing disorder found in the Norwich Terrier. The disorder is linked to a mutation to the gene ADAMTS3.
NTUAS has an in symptoms overlap with Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS), a disorder that causes breathing difficulties in brachycephalic dogs.
Clinical features
Affected dogs display difficulty breathing, with stridor (wheezing and snorting breath noises). Further symptoms can include large/swollen tonsils and partial collapse of the larynx. Diagnosis can be difficult without laryngoscopic examination.
