General information
Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis (NCL) is characterised by progressive degeneration of the central nervous system. American Bulldogs with NCL have accumulations of autofluorescent lipopigments within cells of the nervous system. These accumulations affect the normal function of the brain and nervous system.
Clinical features
American Bulldogs develope clinical signs between 1 and 3 years of age and include mental dullness, ataxia, loss of vision, weakness, abnormal gait, seizures, tremors and aggressive behavior.
