General information

Blood coaggulation, blood clotting, is an important process to stop the bleeding at a wound site. This process is mediated by multiple factors contributing to the coagulation cascade. One of the factors is plasma coagulation factor XII (FXII).

This test detects a DNA variant that is associated with a decrease in FXII activity causing difficulties in blood coagulation.

Clinical features

This variant leads to FXII deficiency. Cats homozygous for this mutation have severe deficiency and cats that are heterozygous have a moderate reduction in FXII activity. The mutation is predicted to result in CRM-negative deficient plasma.

Additional information

In literature in autosomal recessive inheritance pattern is suggested, but also describes mild clinical features in cats heterozygous for this variant.
