General information
Dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa is an inherited skin disorder which causes blistering in the skin and the mucosal membranes. The skin of affected dogs stretches and tears easily. Therefore affected dogs must be monitored closely and treated immediately for any injuries.
Clinical features
Multiple vesicles, bullae and ulcers in the oral and oropharyngeal mucosa, inner pinnae, dorsal plane of the nose, ventral abdomen, external genital and footpads. Symptoms are recognizable soon after birth. Histological examination shows separation at the dermal-epidermal junction with cleft formation.
