General information

Dental Hypomineralization (DH) also known as Raine syndrome can be a very painful condition which affects border collies. Dogs with DH have vulnerable teeth that are not as strong as they should be leading to excessive wear of the teeth.

Clinical features

DH affects the dog from birth but symptoms may not become noticeable for some time. Dogs will develop brown teeth at an early age and pulpitis. Pulpitis leads eventually to tooth death which requires tooth extraction.
