General information
Gold is a modification of the tabby coat. In the Siberian breed, a specific golden phenotype, named extreme-sunshine, has been described. The phenotype is caused by an autosomal recessive inheritance pattern within the CORIN (Corin, Serine Peptidase) gene. Variants in the this gene cause golden coat modifications in cats characterized by enlarged yellow bands in hairs and reduced dark tips (wideband phenotype). A second allelic variant is known to exist that leads to a sunshine phenotype.
Clinical features
Extreme-sunshine cats exhibit a blond undercoat tone, strong enlightenment of the tabby marks, light-cream belly and the same pink nose lacking the dark line that is observed in sunshine cats.
Additional information
Coat colour is an intricate trait that involves a combination of multiple different genes. Testing for a range of different loci will give the most complete prediction of a cat's coat colour genetics.
