Standard and Miniature Schnauzers can be affected by Spondylocostal Dysostosis, also known as Comma Defect. This severe skeletal growth disorder results in a shortened body and abnormal ribs and spine, causing a comma-like body shape. Comma Defect is lethal, resulting in stillbirth or death within hours after the puppy’s birth.
Spondylocostal Dysostosis (Comma Defect) in the Standard and Miniature Schnauzer can be tested with test number H803 or as part of the CombiBreed package Schnauzer (test number H576).
