Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA) is a large group of genetic diseases in which the retina gradually degenerates, causing a progressive loss of vision. In the Miniature Schnauzer a variant known as PRA Type 1 or as Retinitis Pigmentosa causes a severe form of the disease. The main symptom is a gradual loss of vision and affected dogs are generally completely blind by the age of 5 years.

A mutation in the HIVEP3 gene is strongly associated with the disease and can now be tested with a DNA test. Order test number H808 for Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA) HIVEP3 to analyse this mutation or order the CombiBreed package Schnauzer (test number H576).
