General information
Hypotrichosis is a reduced growth of hair, which can result in a sparse or even non-existent coat. A hereditary form of hypotrichosis, caused by a recessive mutation to the gene SGK3, causes complete baldness in affected dogs. The variant of the mutation analysed in this test is found in the Scottish Deerhound.
Clinical features
Affected puppies are born with a sparse coat, but lose it completely in the first few months of life.
