General information
Hypotrichosis is a reduced growth of hair, which can result in a sparse or even non-existent coat. A hereditary form of hypotrichosis, caused by a recessive mutation to the gene SGK3, causes complete baldness in affected dogs. The variant of the mutation analysed in this test is fixed in the American Hairless Terrier.
Clinical features
Affected puppies are born with an extremely sparse, fuzzy coat that is completely lost within the first months of life.
