General information
Gold is a modification of the tabby coat. In the Siberian breed, a specific golden phenotype, named sunshine, has been described. The phenotype is caused by an autosomal recessive inheritance pattern within the CORIN (Corin, Serine Peptidase) gene. Variants in this gene cause golden coat modifications in cats characterized by enlarged yellow bands in hairs and reduced dark tips (wideband phenotype). A second allelic variant is known to exist that leads to an extreme-sunshine phenotype.
Clinical features
Sunshine tabby cats exhibit a warm tone of tabby, a pink nose lacking the black lining and a large light cream area around the nose.
Additional information
Coat colour is an intricate trait that involves a combination of multiple different genes. Testing for a range of different loci will give the most complete prediction of a cat's coat colour genetics.
