General information
The enzyme CYP1A2 is involved in metabolism; the body’s system for processing chemical compounds. Research has shown that certain Beagles are affected by a recessive mutation to the CYP1A2 gene, leaving them less able to process certain specific drugs such as the memory-enhancing compound AC-3933.
Clinical features
Affected dogs have a decreased functionality of the CYP1A2 enzyme, processing certain drugs differently, but are expected to appear mostly normal and healthy.
