General information
The gene TRYP1 is known as the Brown Locus (B-Locus), and is one of the main genes responsible for different coat colours in dogs. Dogs affected by a mutation to the B-Locus have altered pigment production, resulting in a brown coat instead of black. There are several different known variants of this mutation. This particular variant, known as b^e, is specific to the Lancashire Heeler. The mutation is recessive.
