General information
The A-locus controls the banding (agouti pattern) of the cat’s coat.
This analysis of this test allows the distinction between carriers and homozygous solid cats and provides an important basis for coat color breeding decisions.
Clinical features
If at least one intact allele is present (A/a or A/A), the cat shows typical hair banding, which is expressed for example in tabby patterns. However, if two mutated alleles with a 2-base pair deletion in the ASIP gene are present, the banding is completely suppressed – the cat appears solid-colored (non-agouti).
