General information
Cardiomyopathy with juvenile mortality is a severe heart disorder in the Belgian Shepherd, causing the sudden death of affected puppies. It is caused by a recessive mutation to the gene YARS2.
Clinical features
Affected puppies present at about 8 weeks of age with vomiting, shortness of breath, and sometimes spontaneous bouts of tremors and twitching. Sudden death by heart failure is highly likely.
