General information
Autoimmune Lymphoproliferative Syndrome (ALPS) is a rare lymphoproliferative disease and has only been identified in British Shorthair cats so far. In ALPS, the growth of lymphocytes is disrupted which results in an accumulation of lymphocytes in the lymphatic system leading to severe health difficulties.
Clinical features
Kittens with ALPS start showing symptoms at around 6-8 weeks of age. Affected kittens develop enlarged lymphnodes, enlarged spleen, no red blood cells. Furthermore the kittens show abdominal distension, lethargy and weight loss.
