General information

Goniodysgenesis and glaucoma is a complex eye disease caused by multiple genetic factors. The association has been established with a mutation in the OLFML3 gene.

Also known as pectinate ligament abnormality (PLA) and primary closed‐angle glaucoma (PCAG).

Clinical features

The abnormality of the anterior chamber of the eye has been associated with glaucoma and blindness. This causes a.o. severe pain, light sensitivity, eyelid winking spasms and consequential behavioral changes.

Additional information

The association of this variant with goniodysgenesis in Border Collies is strong, but it is not complete. Research has shown that the chance of this marker identifying Border Collies that are actually going to be affected is approximately 69%.
