Improper Coat (IC) has been discovered in the Portuguese water dog and is caused by a mutation in the R-spondin 2 (RSPO2) gene. The wild-type allele accounts for the phenotype.
Clinical features
An "improper coat" is characterised by short hair on the head, face, and lower legs, rather than a thick and even coat covering the whole body.
