General information

Warmblood fragile foal syndrome type 1 (WFFS) is a defect of connective tissue that causes hyperextensibility and abnormally thin, fragile skin. The skin is also susceptible to open lesions.

Clinical features

Symptoms of WFFS are present from birth and include hyperextensibility, abnormally thin, fragile skin of the horse. Affected horses may also develop floppy ears, hyperextensible limb joints, hematoma, seroma, hydrops, air under the skin and premature birth.
